I was driving down Homestead yesterday, counting the empty storefronts where so-called Black-owned businesses once gave our community life.
- The Auto Repair shop near Laura Koppe – shut down.
- Mr. Roy’s Lawn Mower repair shop – vanished.
- Even Big Brother & Little Sister Childcare/Learning Center, closed for business…
One by one, our businesses are closing because we’re spending our dollars outside our community.
And what fills these empty spaces?
Dollar stores and corner stores owned by outsiders who don’t reinvest a dime back into our neighborhood.
The profits they make vanish faster than payday money, straight out of our community into someone else’s pocket.
Remember the old phrase, “If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself”?
Well, we didn’t just listen to that advice – we acted on it.
It’s time we built something that’s ours that the community can support.
This is why we’re announcing the Grand Opening of The Moorish Mini Mart — Saturday, January 18th at 10AM.

Don’t get it confused…
This isn’t some community-crushing corner store but the spark of a revolution.
But here’s the truth:
If we don’t own and support what’s ours, no one will.
Soon enough, we’ll be strangers in our own neighborhood, renting our future from people who never knew Mr. Roy, never trusted Big Brother & Little Sister with their children, never got their car fixed by mechanics who treated them like family.
This grand opening is about showing our community what real power looks like.
It’s about keeping our dollars pumping through our community’s veins.
And maybe, just maybe, it’s a first small step toward a quality full-service grocery store we’ve been starving for.
- No more food desert.
- No more second-rate options.
- No more watching our community’s wealth slip through our fingers.
This Saturday at 10 AM, we’re cutting the ribbon at 7702 Homestead.
Stop through, grab some grocery items at honest prices and support something that’s truly ours.
Because if we don’t seize our destiny, who will?
See you Saturday,
